HAZLETON – In her continuing effort to keep older residents in the Hazleton area informed about the programs and services available to them, Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) hosts a Senior Citizens Expo every September. The free event takes place in the Boscov’s wing of Laurel Mall, 106 Laurel Mall Road in Hazle Township.
This is always one of her favorite events of the year because her staff and Tarah get to see so many of our seniors. The expo brings a variety of businesses and organizations together under one roof, making it more convenient to learn about what they can offer older residents and improve their lives. Tarah is also happy to discuss any state-related issue or concern.
The senior expo will feature more than 80 exhibitors from nonprofit agencies; local, state and federal governments; and area businesses that will provide information on benefits and services available to older residents on a wide range of topics, including health care, insurance, nutrition and exercise, fire safety, financial planning, fraud protection, government and personal safety.
In addition, a number of health screenings will be offered, courtesy of area health care providers, including glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and colon cancer. Please note that the blood work and glucose tests will be performed from 8-10 a.m. Participants are reminded to refrain from eating after midnight.
The Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office will again be providing a Prescription Drug Take-Back Program drop-off box. Seniors can bring their unused or expired medications with them to be safely and properly disposed.
Representatives from the offices of state Sen. John Yudichak (D-14) and U.S. Congressman Lou Barletta (R-11) will also be participating.
A basket raffle will take place at 12:30 p.m. Seniors are reminded to bring a return address label for easier registration. Ticket holders must be present to win a prize.

Tarah Toohil is currently serving her fifth term as state representative of the 116th Legislative District in Luzerne County.
During the 2019-20 legislative session, Rep. Toohil serves as a member of the Children and Youth, Human Services, Judiciary, Professional Licensure and Rules committees.
Rep. Toohil is seeking to help bring about the restoration of government integrity and accountability and eager to strengthen Pennsylvania’s jobs climate. She is a strong proponent of providing property tax relief for area taxpayers and furthering the growth and stability of small businesses to create jobs and stimulate the local economy. She favors improving the business climate in Pennsylvania by removing burdensome taxes for local entrepreneurs.
She is strongly in favor of reducing excessive government spending and borrowing. Rep. Toohil also supports aggressive efforts to identify and isolate instances of fraud in welfare spending, ensuring the proper allocation of state dollars and the protection of hard-working Pennsylvania residents. As the public remains skeptical of the actions of state government, she will be a part of an increasingly open and honest government that is accountable to state residents. She will advocate for a transparent government and stand behind efforts to weed out corruption wherever it is found.
